Who leads L5 Legacy Capital, and what does each leader do for you?
Three people, three clear jobs. Each one answers to you.
Byron Kizzie
What he does for you: decides whether a deal is strong enough for your capital. Byron leads underwriting, bank relationships, the structure of each equity raise and the exit strategy, and every first investor conversation at L5 is with him.
A 20-year U.S. Army veteran and corporate leader in the defense sector, with 15-plus years in real estate development and private equity and more than $6 million in acquisitions overseen.
Dr. Melynda Kizzie
What she does for you: finds the deals worth your capital. Melynda leads the front end, sourcing and screening opportunities across Texas and Louisiana so only the strongest move forward.
A U.S. Army veteran and real estate developer with an MBA and a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership.
Layla Wilson
What she does for you: makes sure you're never left wondering after you invest. Layla Wilson leads investor relations and is a point of contact for investors and their questions. Fund investors get a quarterly investor update, everyone gets the monthly newsletter, and a real person answers you.
Why does it matter who runs the deal?
Because a good property with the wrong sponsor is a bad investment. Most investors never meet the people deciding what happens to their money. At L5, you meet them first.
Here is what stands behind the two founders:
- Their money goes in first. The founders put their own capital into the fund before bringing in investors. What it means for you: they don't ask you to take a risk they won't take.
- You get paid first. Under the L5 fund's offering documents, limited partners receive a preferred return and are paid before the general partners share in profits.
- They say no 95 times. L5 reviews about 100 deals to choose the two to five that work, and plans the exit before it buys.
- They've done it. Residential communities exceeding $4 million. Commercial and hospitality projects exceeding $5 million. A full market cycle, the 2006 boom through the 2008 downturn. And in Northeast Louisiana, a $2.25 million workforce housing project in which investors realized a 1.5x equity multiple, $1.50 back for every $1.00 invested, in under 15 months.
One project's results do not predict the results of any other project. Target returns are not guaranteed. All investments involve risk, including possible loss of principal.
How do the founders work together?
As a team that has trusted each other since the Army. Byron and Melynda met while serving in the U.S. Army, built their first homes in Hawaii with their own hands, and after 15-plus years of building opened L5 Legacy Capital in 2026. Every deal passes through both of them before a single investor is invited.
“I'll let you lead in your strength and you let me lead in mine, which makes us a very powerful team.”
“We're in the foxhole with you.”
